Artist Statement

To accurately understand the social relevance of depictions of the ruling, their effects on American culture, and our anticipated or imagined ideas of class and status we must acknowledged and included the results of colonialism and it’s effects on the depictions of the marginalized underclass. Consequently, my subject matter consists of objects found in thrifts stores, images pulled from books and archives of educational, historical, and commercial websites, and reproductions of religious iconic art and black memorabilia found in flea markets and swap meets. The images give information about the society in which they were produced and reveal certain aspirations, hierarchies, and myths that exist.
